Paintings and Drawings
I created this piece when I was in the hospital for major surgery. The neurographic process was instrumental for pain control.

I consider loving others to be the core of resistance. Every Valentine’s Day I send handmade Valentines to people I love. The list grows longer every year and includes young and old people, Black, White, Asian, Hispanic and Native American people. Some of the recipients are straight and some identify as LGBTQ+. Seeing a wide variety of people as people to love, not as a frightening ‘other’ is resistance to all the evil that springs from fear and hate. The love I share with people I know through my Valentines reflects the way I live my life.
I have been a nurse for over 30 years and have worked with love for my patients. Not romantic love, but love of action. Nursing is hard work that includes dealing with people from all walks of life who are facing a multitude of health challenges. It is often messy, sometimes smelly, physically, mentally and emotionally demanding. My Valentine for my patients is the way I care about them while I care for them. This painting is a visual representation of sending love into the world.

I explored color and texture with this work. It was created on a 4 shaft floor loom and features colored warp, clasped weft and goose eye patterns.
